Tinker and Invent: July 24th, 9am-4pm Pacific Time
Students spend most of their time in school answering other people’s questions and their own wondering is often restricted to “when are we going to use this?” Join facilitators Anna Blinstein and Avery Pickford for a virtual day-long workshop exploring strategies such as “what-if-not” and the “Invent Your Own” project, designed to pique student curiosity and help students ask their own mathematical questions. Come to this workshop to learn about ways to integrate student-posed problems and structures into your existing curriculum. Note: We want to acknowledge current events in the world. While this workshop is primarily focused on students’ mathematical thinking, we believe mathematics isn’t neutral and strive to bring an anti-racist lens to this work. Additionally, while this workshop will not be a training on remote learning, the strategies we share can be translated to this medium (and we’ll discuss ways to do that in the workshop).
We are offering this workshop on a pay-what-you-can sliding scale.
If you are registering as a group, each individual should register separately, but select the “Group” option to ensure that each one is charged at the discounted group rate.
